Located on the Costa Blanca, and characterized by its white sandy beaches, Alicante
is a top destination for holiday makers. The original name of the city, which has been inhabited for 7000 years was “Lucentum,” which translates as “City of Light”, and it’s no wonder why. Alicante boasts 2,800 hours of sun per year, and its trademark is its fantastic weather. Not to mention, the good weather conditions year-round make it a fabulous destination for cycling.
Why sightsee in Alicante by bike
Sightseeing by bike is a fun, eco-friendly and efficient way of seeing Alicante. Plus, you can cover more distance in less time, for example the Playa de San Juan is just a 30-minute bike ride from the city center. You can be sure to see all of the city’s top attractions like the Santa Bárbara Castle, the Barrio de Santa Cruz, the promenade Explanada de España, the Monastery of Santa Faz and the Defence towers of the Huerta de Alicante, among many others. Once you have the attractions under your belt, you can bike to the beach or explore one of the hundreds of kilometers of bike paths and green routes. There are also coastal routes and city bike paths, which makes cycling in Alicante a great idea!
Cycling along the coast: venture outside the city center
Ride along the coast, stopping along the way at one of the beautiful beaches. You can start at Playa de San Juan, and ride for 26 kilometres (16 mi) along flat roads, heading north through El Campello and towards Coveta Fuma. Stop for a seafood lunch at the charming town of El Campello. Once you arrive at Coveta Fuma you can explore the quaint seaside village and the excellent coves for sunbathing. Don’t feel like cycling back? No problem! Hop on a cheap tram, which goes every hour and will take you back to Alicante city, along the coast, in 35 minutes.
