World Cup Is Finally Here!

Finally.  It's here, after all the months of waiting, the World Cup is finally here.  I for one can’t wait to see how all the action unfolds.  With Spain and Brazil being the bookies favourites, there is always upset in any great world cup and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a final with neither favourites walking out of the tunnel.

This being the first World Cup on African soil, I really can see the possibility of a major upset somewhere along the line.  Will the hosts capitalise on the rapturous support from the passionate home crowd? or can Nigeria or Ivory Coast carry the African flag to the final, I certainly would not rule it out.

With the opening ceremony under way at Soccer City in Johannesburg, the celebrations really are in full flow and you’d be wise to get used to the sound of the vuvuzela, also know as the lepatata. as you can guarantee that every game will be greeted with a deafening soundtrack!  It’s an acquired taste, but to South African’s the vuvezela is football’s beautiful noise!  Personally, I think it would drive me crazy!

Its not just about football either, starts from all over the world are joining in the fun and R’n’B star R Kelly is just one of many celebs performing ahead of the opening game between the hosts and Mexico in the opening game that is due to start at 4pm local time.

Sadly however for the greatest sports event on Earth, The opening ceremony of the South Africa World cup will be missed by the elder statesmen of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.  Tragically his great grand daughter was killed last night in a car crash whilst travelling from the pre-World Cup concert in Jannesburg last night.  He will be sorely missed

Where ever you are watching the action, be sure to drop by my blog to get a daily report on the games, I’ll be watching as many as possible and look forward to sharing my views with you all!  So sit back, enjoy the action and may the best team win! Just in case you thought I was sitting on the fence, my prediction is that Italy will take the honours again this time around.

My daily predictions;
South Africa 1 - 3 Mexico
Uruguay 0 - 3 France
