Guide to Costa Blanca

Famed for its gorgeous white beaches, the Costa Blanca or White Coast is one of Spain’s top tourist destinations.

The Costa Blanca starts at the coastal town of Denia on eastern coast of Spain which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. Car hire Denia is the perfect way to start your exploration of the Costa Blanca. Despite having a modestly sized population of about 40,000 people, Denia swells considerably during the summer months with tourists flocking there who are looking to enjoy beach life and a bit of Spanish culture. By far the largest of arrival point in Costa Blanca is Alicante with many budget airlines serving the airport. Car hire at Alicante Airport is very popular during the summer months and it is highly recommended to book well in advance.

Families may prefer to head to the northern part of Denia where all the beaches are sandy but the 20 kilometres of coastline it covers also has rocky crags and a fishing harbour. During the day there are caves which can be inspected while the fishing harbour is a charming place to take a walk in the warm Spanish night air.

Everyone who goes to Denia will find plenty to see and do in a town rich in history. Denia still has many buildings and castles built during its occupation by Romans and Moors. At Denia’s beaches be sure to rent snorkelling gear or, for the more adventurous, go scuba diving to see the wide range of marine life on view. From Denia you can take a ferry easily across to the happening Balearic Islands which have been a favourite with revellers for thousands of years. Today Ibiza is one of the world’s most popular clubbing islands.

Another place on the Costa Blanca which has an abundance of wildlife and beautiful beaches is Torrevieja. The burgeoning tourist industry here has made Torrevieja one of the fastest growing towns in Spain. Car hire Torrevieja is the only way to see the nature parks, salt lakes, cliffs and coves that surround this town in the district of Vega Baja. The area is well connected by many roads which include the A37 motorway between Alicante and Cartagena, the provincial road 3321 and the regional main road CV-90. If you are arriving into Torrevieja by plane you can use the airports San Javier in Murcia which is 25 kilometres to the south, and El Altet which is situated 40 kilometres to the north in Alicante.

Other towns on the Costa Blanca are Javea, Moraira, Benitachell and Benissa. All of them are within easy reach of fantastic beaches and can boast some of the best weather in Europe.
