New Terminal at Dubai International Airport
New Terminal at Dubai International Airport
11/7/2008
A NEW gateway to the east has now opened with a third Emirates terminal which will seek to double passenger capacity at Dubai airport.
As Dubai takes on the mantle of being the new Las Vegas for its sheer opulence, more and more people are flocking to the city to see its larger-than-life buildings and take advantage of the duty free shopping.
Last week flights from Europe started to arrive at the new terminal, which has been built underground, after completion of the final phase of an ambitious plan to deliver total customer satisfaction.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline and Group said: “Emirates Terminal 3 is not just a symbol of our phenomenal success or our ambitious plans but a testament to our understanding of customer needs. “Our passengers deserve to be treated in the style, luxury and the hospitality they have come to expect from the Emirates brand.
“We have received terrific feedback from our customers, attesting to our corporate values of service excellence and innovation.
“Our first three phases have been completed smoothly and we are confident that the final phase will be equally well-managed.”
That fourth and final phase will see the rest of Emirates flights taking off on routes to East Asia, India and Australasia which make up about 40 per cent of all the company’s operations.
The aim of the terminal is to replicate on the ground the luxury of the experience of flying Emirates. It will have hotels, restaurants and even spas as well as trying to make the check in process as smooth as possible.
Planes are now taking off from the terminal towards destinations including Europe, America and Africa, but from midday on November 11 all Emirates flights will be leaving from terminal three. However, Emirates will still have a presence at concourse one of Dubai international Airport.

Red carpets have been rolled out at the Emirates check in which will have a do-it-yourself as well as an over-the-counter service option. There are 15 counters each for first and business class travellers.
Particularly well appointed are the first and business class lounges which both have access to spas and everything on offer from massages to beauty treatments and facials to help you unwind during a long journey.
The first class lounge, which seats 800 passengers, has gourmet cuisine, a la carte dining, fresh fruit cocktails and the best selections of wines available with attentive round the clock staff on hand.
Business class is hardly a hardship either with a huge plasma screen TV, a business centre, conference room and a soothing earth, wind, fire and water décor theme. Children are also well catered for with comprehensive play areas to keep them occupied in the event of any lengthy stopovers.
So far more than 1,500 flights and 350,000 passengers have successfully gone through the terminal during the first twenty days so terminal three has stood up to initial tests. Flights from the UK to the terminal will now increase to 138 per week.
The opening of the terminal has coincided with a boom in Dubai development, not least with the construction of a number of super hotels. The Atlantis is one of these. It has 1,500 rooms , its own adventure water park and 700 metre beach as well as restaurants, nightclubs and bars.
There is also a surge in boutique hotels, such as the Desert Palm which is located in the middle of the desert to give a feeling of total tranquillity to its guests. Desert Palm has 24 individually decorated suites and villas.
The fashion designer Giorgio Armani is set to develop a Dubai hotel with 160 rooms, a spa, restaurants and a nightclub, with, of course, the best of his clothes and products easily available to buy as well.
For sheer size though you cannot beat the Dubai mall which is the sixe of 50 football pitches and plans to take 30 million customers in its first year of business. So if you plan to shop till you drop in Dubai while seeing jaw dropping modern architecture, or are just using the terminal as a stopover on the way between east and west, Emirates Terminal three will have something for everyone.
