Car Rental Giant takes over French Design Company

4/12/2009
Car rental giant Hertz has taken over a French design company in an effort to improve their technology systems.

Eileo S.A, a car sharing technology leader based in Paris since 2002, has been acquired by Hertz Global Holdings Inc. The financial terms of the take over have not been announced.

Hertz CEO and chairman Mark P. Frissora said: "Eileo provides state-of-the-art, user-friendly technology innovations for use by the global car sharing industry.
“Acquiring Eileo underscores our long-term commitment to be the car sharing leader by providing comprehensive, customer-friendly solutions in this technology-driven business.

“Eileo will continue to create competitive advantages for Connect by Hertz and we will also deploy their technology to create advantages in our car and equipment rental businesses".
Hertz operates from more than 140 countries with more than 8,000 car rental locations making it one of the largest car hire firms in the world.

It is believed that the acquisition of Eileo will help to, among other things, streamline Hertz’s booking process, increase payment possibilities and allow them to better monitor and track their huge fleet of cars.
Eileo CEO Arnaud Lejeune said: "We are proud to partner with Hertz to deliver future generations of car sharing technologies and speed up the implementation of our industry vision on two continents.
“We share a passion for creating the most user-centric and enjoyable car sharing experience, which already drives Connect by Hertz services.

“While continuing to serve the whole car sharing industry, we’re excited by the opportunity to expand the applications of our technology to other forms of business."

In contrast Leeds car rental company 1car1 has now had its assets sold off after going into administration.
1car1’s collapse started a few months ago and was triggered by the global financial crisis. Administrators from PriceWaterhouseCoopers LLP have so far sold some of 1car1’s assets to car rental firm Enterprise.
