Dollar and Thrifty report reduced profits - Car Rental News
4/27/2009
Dollar Rent a Car and Thrifty Car Rental are the latest large car rental companies to report reduced profits due to the economic downturn.
On Tuesday the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. announced that their first quarter rental revenue was down about 9% compared to their 2008 figures. Dollar Thrifty shares fell fives cents, to close at $1.80 last week.
Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Rent a Car both had a slow Easter in terms of trade.
Although the firms have recently raised their prices to cope with reduced demand they have experienced a 12% drop in transaction days according to the Associated Press.
However, future predictions by Dollar Rent a Car and Thrifty Car Rental remain optimistic as they believe that price increases of about 10% per day for their vehicles will help make up the deficits.
On May 6 the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. company will make an official report on their first quarter results.
Staying strong in the face of the economic crisis, Enterprise Rent a Car has promised to plant one million trees.
Enterprise Rent a Car is an American car rental company based in St Louis,
Missouri
which has more than 75,000 staff spread all over the world.
An Enterprise Rent a Car spokesperson said: “New trees will help lessen the risk of infestation of watershed areas by invasive plants and help restore forest wildlife habitats.”
This is the fourth year in a row that the car rental giant has made this gesture towards the environment to help replace trees which have been the victims of disease or natural disasters.
In total Enterprise Rent a Car will donate a massive $50 million to continue this scheme over the next 50 years in conjunction with the United States Forest Service and the Arbor Day Foundation.
