Car Rental Reservation not Honoured by Dollar

4/15/2009
A TRAVELLER complained after her car rental reservation was not honoured by a major car company.
Kristin Luna from San Francisco was told that hiring a Dollar Rent a Car vehicle in Texas would cost $37 per day.
But when she arrived to collect her car a recent hurricane meant that none of the vehicles were in stock.

Instead she was given a car which cost her just under $400, rather than the $115 she had anticipated.
She said, in an email to Msnbc: “The Dollar representative was really rude. She acted as if this wasn't her problem.

“Even though we had the confirmation printed out, no one from Hotwire or the rental car company had contacted us to tell us we wouldn't have a car.
“The Dollar agent pointed to the Advantage counter, and told us that they would honor our reservation, but not our rate.

“Shouldn't Dollar have paid the difference in price, since it was their fault and not ours?”
One company which is not running out of cars in a hurry is Thrifty Car Rental.
The car rental giant has just opened a car hire office in Jumeirah Beach, a resort in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

General Manager of Thrifty UAE, Rahul Singh, said: “The Jumeirah Beach Residence is a popular one for tourists and continues to be home to many locals as well as expatriates.

“Thrifty’s new office in this flourishing location is very useful for customers looking to hire cars in the UAE.”
“The Middle East is a heavily car-reliant market and corporate restructuring has caused consumers to take a more short-term view rather than investing in a car which has related maintenance and insurance costs.
“Leasing, on the other hand, provides a flexible transport opportunity for people who are unclear about how long they will be in the region for.”
