Of course Hotels range from the sublime to the rediculous.  If bigger is better in you eye's you might consider the Guiness World Record Holding, First World Hotel, Genting Highlands in Malaysia which in 2006 was crowned the worlds largest hotel with a staggering 6,118 rooms!  If its a trip down memory lane that gets you flashing the credic card, you might want to take a trip to the Hoshi Ryokan, in the Awazu Onsen area of Komatsu, Japan which according to records is the Worlds Oldest Hotel still in operation, recorded as being built in 717.

If however you are looking for a bed for the night in the clouds, only in Dubai can you find the Worlds Tallest Hotel.  Cities and the mega rich have been competing since time began to have the tallest hotels and the latest edition, the Burj Al Arab (Arabic: برج العرب‎,"Tower of the Arabs", also known as "Arab Sail") recently took the coveted top spot.  Measured as the third tallest building in the world, the engineeing marvel stands 1050 ft in the air.  As if having your head in the clouds wasn't enough of an engineering challenge, the hotel sits pride of place 920ft out from the Jumeriah Beach, connected to the mainland by a bridge.  The top rooms reportedly cost thousands of dollars a night, so unless you are an oil tycoon, lottery winner or happen to marry a premiership footballer your chances of staying in the top suites are slim!
