Colwyn Bay Mini Guide
Colwyn Bay is a coastal town in North Wales which is a popular seaside resort during the summer months. The main focus for tourists is the fine old Victoria Pier in Colwyn Bay which has been well preserved since it was built in June 1900. This is a quintessentially Welsh town where the language is almost uniformly spoken, though English speaking tourists will not find it a difficult place to visit.
Colwyn Bay is not far from the stunning headlands known as Little Orme which are part of the North Wales Bird Trust and a great place to go walking and see plenty of wildlife. In the town itself there is also the Welsh Mountain Zoo which is a zoological garden with an interesting history. The avid collector who set up the Welsh Mountain Zoo (also known as Colwyn Bay Zoo) actually had animals such as Cheetah the chimpanzee who starred in the Tarzan movie and Daisy the alligator from the same movie. Today you can see incredible animals there such as rare snow leopards and Californian sea lions.
Hiring a car in Colwyn Bay also allows you to make the brief drive south to national park of Snowdonia. Snowdonia covers more than 800 square miles of countryside and attracts people who are looking to indulge in all sorts of outdoor pursuits like kayaking, white water rafting, mountain biking and hiking. It is like a perfectly preserved slice of old rural Britain complete with castles, steam train lines, lakes, rivers and woods.
