Bridgend is a town in south Wales which is halfway between the cities of Swansea and Cardiff in the county borough of Bridgend.
Bridgend is by no mean the most attractive town in Wales and may be best used as a base from which to explore elsewhere.
Having a car in Bridgend is a good idea as it allows you to check out the coast line of south Wales or drive to neighbouring Cardiff, the capital of Wales, in no time at all.
Bridgend town centre is within a short distance of the M4 motorway. The A4063, A4061, A473 and A48 roads are also prominent roads which go through Bridgend.
If you are hoping to get some exercise while in Bridgend then they will be glad to know that Bridgend is on the National Cycle Route. A new cycle route has been built there which runs from Cefn Glas through Broadlands and on to Brackla, while the areas of the Aflan Valley, Glyncorrwg and Maesteg are famous for their excellent and challenging mountain bike trails. Your best bet is to first drive 20 kilometres north of Bridgend where you will find the start of the cycle trails.
The closest international airport to Bridgend is Cardiff international airport. Cardiff airport is not actually located in the Welsh capital itself, but in the nearby village of Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan which is almost 20 kilometres outside of Cardiff.
