Teesside Airport Mini Guide

Teesside Airport
Teesside Airport or Durham Tees Valley Airport as it was renamed in 2004 (due to an invasion of confused golfing fanatics) is one of Britain’s smaller international airports. It began its life as an RAF bomber base during World War II and in peacetime continued as a training ground for RAF pilots until it was redeveloped in 1966 as a commercial airport.

How to Pass Some Time at Teesside
Well you could do a crossword or grab yourself a puzzle book at the airport's WHSmith store, or check out the latest hardback thriller. WHSmith is well known for its wide range of newspapers, magazines, books and comics to lighten your mood.  It's huge range of titles is enough to satisfy all tastes. It also carries a good range of crisps, chocolates and sweets in case you’ve got a case of the munchies.

For a wide range of fashion accessories, jewellery and designer sunglasses Teesside Airport's Alpha shopping will meet all your needs. From a varied range of wines to top quality spirits and all the best labels to sweet luxury chocolates, last minute gifts for all your loved ones can easily be found there.

Or You Could Just Chill Out
Cosy up in a comfy British Pub atmosphere and enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of real Ale at the Yard of Ale bar in the Airport. A great place to pass some time while waiting for your flight, they also have an excellent selection of tasty pub meals to choose from.

If you prefer a coffee, you won’t be short changed either. There is a good choice of three different coffee outlets at the airport, choose from the Cafe Oasis with its great range of hot and cold meals and tasty “to go” sandwiches or try the Cafe Express in the departure lounge which also carries a fair range of snacks and refreshments. Finally, you can’t go wrong with a stop at Costa Coffee. This very popular Italian coffee house chain hits the spot every time. They carry an excellent selection of freshly ground coffees and tasty treats with a fresh homemade flavour and their gluten free brownies are sure to tempt you at the register.

Restricted Mobility Assistance
The facilities for passengers with restricted mobility at Teesside Airport are quite good. Reserved parking is readily available and all spaces are within a comfortable hundred metres of the terminal. Disabled toilets are located throughout the wheelchair friendly terminal and an Ambulift is available on request for transfer on and off the aircraft, reservations for this facility if required should be made in advance with the airports information desk. It is advised that all passengers that may require extra assistance should inform their airline in advance, preferably at the time of booking.

How To Get There
Driving to and from Teesside Airport is definitely the best option, the airport is easy to reach from the A67 and the A1M and is signposted on all approaches. The airport also has its own train station but it is very inconveniently located (a fifteen minute walk) with a poor service, so does not come recommended as an option. Buses are also available from Darlington but not anywhere else.
