Victoria station is one of the main rail and underground stations in London. It mainly serves destinations in the south including the popular weekend-break spot Brighton and nearby Eastbourne with its wonderful white cliffs at Beachy Head.
Victoria itself forms a hub with many shops and restaurants offered within the complex such as Burger King and WHSmith. At night there is even the huge nightclub Pacha, which is based on a club of the same name in Ibiza. Victoria Station in London is the 2nd busiest railway station in the UK, after Waterloo. It houses both the railway terminus and the underground complex. It is in theory, four stations: 2 railway stations providing service to the south east of England, an underground station for 3 lines and a deep tube station. The two underground stations were built a century apart. It is named after Victoria Street nearby and not after Queen Victoria as many people suggest. Victoria Station first opened in 1860 in association with Pimlico Railways.
Where can I go from There / How do I get There?
At the front of the building there is a bus station for exploring the London area and coaches leave from Victoria Coach Station nearby, for destinations nationwide. The station has 2 main train lines, to the east to Kent and to the west to Surrey and Sussex. The eastern station is also used by the Venice Simplon Orient Express as it has the longest platform. The underground station can take you around London, via the District, Circle and Victoria lines. The station also has an air passenger terminal, for those travelling onto Gatwick Airport by the Gatwick Express service that has a journey time of 30 minutes.
What Facilities are There for me?
ATMs are located on the main concourse. Seating is available all around the station but there is no internet service in use. There are pay phones and a post box for your use. The information centre can provide you with details of onward travel.
Can I buy Anything?
There are a wide range of outlets available for shopping including high street names. For any last minute emergency, there is a pharmacy and a convenience store. You can also buy flowers, have a hair cut or get your shoes mended!
What if I Want to eat?
There is a choice of cafes or kiosks, if you want to grab and go. There is a food outlet with seating on the main concourse with brands such as Yo-Sushi and McDonalds.
What can I see Near There?
The station is close to Buckingham Palace and St James Park.
