Texas Mini Guide
The state of Texas is so large that it could almost be called a country within a country and many Texans feel independent to the rest of America.
Texas was actually its own nation for 10 years in between being considered part of Spain, Mexico and eventually the United States in 1845.
Today Texans are well known for being larger than life with their distinctive accents and a friendliness and hospitality that make Texas well worth visiting.
Texas is actually America’s second biggest state after Alaska but unlike Alaska it has a huge population.
Despite so many people living there, large swathes of Texas are empty making the state a perfect place to go out exploring. The multicultural Houston is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest city in the United States. Car rental Houston is the ideal way to begin your journey and lets you visit its excellent restaurants and entertainments which include a world class symphony orchestra and an opera house which has a full time ballet company. Having a car is an absolute necessity as Texas is bigger than France with huge travelling distances between its cities.
These include Dallas (made famous in the soap opera of the same name) Texas’ third biggest city and home to the Dallas Cowboys football team. Dallas is the place to go if you need to do some shopping as it has an exorbitant amount of retail outlets.
Another major Texas city is the state capital Austin which is where the University of Texas is located. Austin accordingly prides itself on having a buzzing nightlife and being ‘the live music capital of the world’.
The city of Fort Worth is also worth visiting and is described by locals as being ‘Where the west begins’ as it is part of the Prairies and Lakes region.
