Shuttle services
An alternative to public transport is the raft of well-organised firms that offer set-fee shuttles to the attractions and places like Kennedy Space Center and Busch Gardens and pick up at hotels. The main firms are Mears and Coach USA. Mears (407 423 5566, www.mearstransportation.com) offers the most comprehensive service, from limousines to coaches, and typical round-trip shuttle fares would be: Airport-Walt Disney World, $29/person ($2I/child, ages 4-11; or $17 and $13 one-way); Airport-I-Drive, $2 5/$ 18; $15 and $11 one way); Airport-Highway 192 in Kissimmee $3 2-41/$ 19-2 3; Walt Disney World-\Jnivers&X Orlando, $14 round trip; Y-Drive-Walt Disney World, $14; I-Drive or Walt Disney World-Kennedy Space Center, $21. Mears also offers a SuperPass service of 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 days of unlimited service to and from the main area attractions (including airport transfers) from I-Drive or Walt Disney World for $63, $72, $85, $96, $107 ($56, $67, $78, $89, $100 per child 3-11). Additional days $15 each. You can book a Mears shuttle on arrival at one of their desks in the luggage halls, but it can be a long journey to your hotel if they have a full van.
Coach USA (407 826 9999, www.coachusa.com) offers a full-day's excursion to Kennedy Space Center (including entry) for $66 ($54 children 3-9; $30 transport only), or $30 for a day trip to Cocoa Beach. Coach USA also has shuttle services from Orlando Sanford Airport at $40 round trip (much further north, remember) to most of the tourist areas ($21 one way).

They offer a highly personal and efficient alternative to taxis and shuttles for airport transfers and can be more economical for larger groups. Town cars (luxury saloons) will cope with a family or four, while the spacious vans cater for larger parties (plus the limos). Their friendly drivers meet you in the baggage hall (look for the green sign-board) and take you directly to the hotel (with a 30-minute grocery stop, if required, for an extra $17.50). Visit their excellent website for an insight into arriving at Orlando International. Luxury van rates (for up to seven) one way from the airport range from $41.50 to the I-Drive area up to $66.50 for the farthest parts of Walt Disney World. Up to 11 can use a van for a small additional fee per person. Lamer parties may need a luggage trailer for $17.50 extra each way. Town car rates are $68.50 one way from the airport to anywhere in Greater Orlando and $136 round trip, while stretch limos are $106 and $208.75. They offer a personalised service to all the theme parks and attractions, plus round-trip transportation from Orlando to Port Canaveral for cruise connections. Every Tuesday they organise a shuttle to Kennedy Space Center for $25 round trip.

Several shopping malls have their own shuttle or pick-up service. Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores collects guests free on a daily basis from more than 40 hotels in the Orlando and Kissimmee areas (check your hotel for details, or call 407 363 1093).

Orlando Premium Outlets (407 390 0000) provides a hotel shuttle with Maingate Transportation at $6 round trip from the Lake Buena Vista area and $9 from Kissimmee hotels. The Florida Mall has a free shuttle twice daily from hotels in I-Drive and Lake Buena Vista (check with your hotel concierge, call 407 851 6255 or visit www.florida-mall-fl.com).
