New Jersey Mini Guide
New Jersey is America’s most populated state and it is bordered by Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York.
With the other border at the Atlantic Ocean, this eastern seaboard state has plenty of areas of natural beauty.
Two large rivers go through New Jersey, the Hudson River and the Delaware River. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (park) is located along the banks of the latter and is a great place to go fishing or camping. Other national parks in New Jersey are the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and the Gateway National Recreation Area which is spread over a large area which covers Staten Island and Sandy Hook.
Newark is the biggest of Jersey’s cities, but the state capital of New Jersey is Trenton. Car rental Newark means that you can get from the Newark Liberty International Airport, which has connections with a huge number of destinations, to this atmospheric city. Bear in mind when driving in New Jersey that state law does not allow for self service at gas stations.
Newark has a reputation for being slightly rough but is architecturally very impressive and has plenty of art galleries, restaurants and universities. There are some Rutgers University campuses in Newark, but the original campus is in the city of New Brunswick. New Jersey is also where the borough of Princeton and its Ivy League University can be found.
Of course Newark is slightly overshadowed by the nearby New York and if you go to the New Jersey city of Hoboken you can get a fantastic view of Manhattan.
Other places worth going to in New Jersey are the Appalachian Mountain Trail, the Victorian seaside town of Cape May which was originally settled by fishermen and whalers and now welcomes many migratory birds every year, and the Pine Barrens wooded area.
