Detroit is described as a major metropolis in the state of Michigan. It has been a significant influence in many ways to the whole world. One of the first to introduce the automotive assembly line but better known for its music. The Motown sound shaped the way we hear music today but also in many other genres, from rock to techno. The city itself is world class and has so much to offer.
Spread over eight districts, including the hustle and bustle of Downtown, where the architecture is something to behold. A large theatre district with many famous shows playing is one of the reasons to explore this great city. Downtown is the place to be, to really appreciate what the city has to offer. Midtown is the city’s cultural centre, where you will find world class museums and art galleries, it is very unique.
If you head down to the Northwest Side, you can walk the famous “8 mile” and wander around Detroit’s only shopping mall. The Southwest Side is renowned for many historic sites, such as Michigan Central Station, and its Ethnic cuisine is a delight to your taste buds. The Detroit River divides the US and Canada and you can expect stunning views of the river from Downtown. Exploring this great city can be done either by the famous Greyhound buses but for a truly unique experience it is best to hire a car, that way you can explore the city at your own pace.
Detroit Metro Airport is twenty minutes west of the city and as it is spread over a vast area and as Detroit has an extensive and very modern freeway system, so renting a car is the best way to get around if you want to make the most of your stay there.
