Malaga city is often overlooked in the rush to the coastal resorts but with a hire car you can spend time on the beach and in the historic city. The oldest remaining part is the Quecha theatre which dates from the 1st century. Deeper into the city you’ll find the historic old town, still showing many signs of Moorish influence.
Higher up is the fortress of Gibralfaro and the Alcazabar, a Moorish bastion and palace. Outside of the city, spend time exploring the mountains behind the coast of this part of Andalucia where, even in summer the air is cool.

Malaga is one of Spain's most busiest airports with flights to 120 airports around the world, 17 of which are in Spain itself and 23 are in the United Kingdom. Although Malaga is an important destination hub it can also get a little crazy in the main terminal, so you would be well advised to save yourself some time and stress by hiring a car in advance.
Malaga Airport has two terminals which are connected via the upper level of the airport and most of its passengers arrive at Terminal 2.
When proceeding through Malaga keep all your belongings where you can see them as there have been reports of thefts in the past. It is also a good idea to leave yourself lots of time upon arrival.
All the demand placed on Malaga has meant that it is being expanded with another runway, an extra luggage carousel and more check in desks being built. This construction work currently taking place in Malaga adds to the sense of chaos in the airport.
But these developments will definitely be for the better and a brand new Holiday Inn Hotel has been built nearby. The new car park, open as of 2007, now offers 2,500 spaces so parking should not be a problem. There is also a free car parking in the terminal but spaces are limited so giving yourself that extra half hour is a good idea.
Malaga is Spain's fourth most popular airport and this is in part due to its ideal location on the Costa Del Sol of sunny southern Spain.
