Car Hire Fish Hoek

"Drive in your hire car to Fish Hoek beach and relax in beautiful surroundings and warm water."

cheap car hire Fish Hoek

These days Fish Hoek is a suburb of Cape Town on False Bay but years ago it was a community of its own.  Originally based on fishing and whaling, the town grew because of tourism and today this sits side by side with the still thriving fishing industry.

Hire a car to reach the beach, voted ‘Most Beautiful in South Africa’ and enjoy sunbathing, swimming or surfing. Another day you can travel to see Peers Cave where, in the early 20th century, a local naturalist found bones and skulls dated to over 12,000 years old

  • Sharks appear regularly in the bay and a fatal attack was recorded in 2010.

Fish Hoek Mini Guide

Tell me About Fish Hoek
Fish Hoek is a small coastal town on False Bay, in the city of Cape Town, South Africa. It is popular with holidaymakers who want a relaxing holiday and to sunbathe and surf or go sailing and fishing. It is a useful base for exploring the Cape Point.

So, how do I get There?
If you are travelling from abroad you would fly into Cape Town International Airport and then drive or use a hotel shuttle bus to get you to Fish Hoek town. It is 30km by road and can take anything between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on the traffic. Car hire is advisable to explore the area as public transport is very limited.

What Can I See in the Town?
The town is most well known for its beaches, the southern side is mostly for sunbathers and surfers, the northern side is where the fishermen land their catch and the locals like to walk. Between June and November you maybe lucky enough to see a southern right whale and hopefully not a shark – these have appeared in the bay and shark spotters are on look out for them. In the town you can visit the Fish Hoek Valley Museum and see stone age excavations at Peers Cave.

What if I get Bored?
Go for a wine tasting at Cape Point Vineyards in Noordhoek, these are probably some of the best wines in the world. Afterwards, head to the neighbouring Silvermine Nature Reserve, not only for the birds and endangered species but the wonderful views over False Bay.

What’s the Food Like?

In Fish Hoek, it’s all about the seafood! Barracuda Restaurant is on the seafront and has a contemporary but natural feel – there you can enjoy dishes such as springbok carpaccio and barracuda fish platter. If you are down on the beach, head for the lively Fish Hoek Galley, where you can try mussels mariniere or monkeygland steak. As well as seafood, try some local South African dishes and exotic game if you dare!

Where can I Stay?
Tranquility Guest House is located on the mountainside overlooking the town. You can relax in the gardens or the Jacuzzi and enjoy the amazing views of False Bay. The guest house has an airport shuttle service and free Wi-Fi.
