Hamilton Mini Guide
Hamilton is a settlement to the south west of the city of Glasgow in the central west lowlands of Scotland.
Hamilton is part of the county of South Lanarkshire and is the administrative centre of the area. Hamilton retains many old castles, country parks and even a palace which make it a pleasant place to visit with plenty to see and do.
This large town was built on the south bank of the River Clyde where it meets the River Avon. Named after the Hamilton family, one of the town’s landmarks is their mausoleum which is said to have an incredibly long echo.
Taking a tour of the town you will also see the Edwardian Town Hall building which houses the town’s library and concert hall, and the impressive Georgian architecture of the Hamilton Old Parish Church.
Don’t leave without seeing Hamilton Palace which to this day is the largest non royal residence in the western world. Near to the palace is the Low Parks museum which is the oldest building in Hamilton and has just been refurbished. The museum is well worth seeing as it contains exhibits on Hamilton Palace and the Cameronian Scottish rifles regiment.
