Fort William is an incredibly isolated town in the north of Scotland. Having a car here is absolutely essential as it is so far away from the main cities and airports of Scotland.

That said this is an incredibly scenic part of the north Scottish highlands to drive around and explore. Visitors will not be disappointed. Fort William is an amazing place to go for long country walks where you will not see another soul for miles.
In the winter you can go skiing in Fort William, while climbers will be pleased to know that it is very close to Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain at more than 4400 feet.
The Mamores are another unspoilt mountain range within driving distance of Fort William. There is a wealth of different accommodation in Fort William including charming little bed and breakfasts, guest houses and upmarket hotels.

The closest city is Aberdeen which is more than an hour’s drive to the east. Aberdeen has some museums and art galleries for visitors to see. These include the Maritime Museum which has a naval history of the city, the Gordon Highlanders Museum in homage to a famous Scottish army regiment and the Marischal Museum which has general items of historical interest.
