Aberdeen is a busy Scottish city whose wealth revolves around the sea and North Sea oil. A great place to learn about this is to visit the Maritime Museum where, in a series of quite spectacular exhibits, you can learn all about the dangers and rewards of fishing and the workings of an oil rig.
For more land based history, your hire car will get you to the Gordon Highlanders Museum which details the important role this renowned regiment of soldiers has played in the history of Scotland and the UK as a whole.

Aberdeen is situated at the mouth of two major Scottish rivers, the Dee and the Don, in the north east of Scotland and is a thriving port. Although the city is very northerly it has good travel connections and Aberdeen Airport is only 12km from the city centre.
Car hire and taxis are available at the airport together with a good bus service. In fact a flight to London only takes one hour.
Aberdeen Railway Station is on the main UK rail network. It has direct connections to many major cities such as Edinburgh, Glasgow and London.
There are a number of major roads into the city and the A90 is the main route from the north and south into the city. A ferry service operates to the Orkney and Shetland Islands and there is a good bus service in the city.
Aberdeen is known as the “Granite City” or “Silver City” due to the predominance of gleaming granite buildings. It is the third most populated city in Scotland. The city has a broad range of cultural activities and museums and art galleries. Cinemas and popular nightclubs are to be found in Aberdeen as well as His Majesty’s Theatre. The Aberdeen Music Hall and The Lemon Tree also provide excellent entertainment. There is a good range of first class restaurants and pubs, some of which also provide live music.
Aberdeen has many excellent parks and floral gardens. The city is renowned for its floral displays and has won the Britain in Bloom ‘Best City’ award on frequent occasions.
There are many leisure activities available including, tennis courts, The Beach Leisure Centre and swimming pools. Aberdeen F.C. is the city’s football team and plays at Pittordrie.

The Grampian region and the North East of Scotland is a wonderful place to explore. Car hire is a great option to visit the many castles, the superb coastline, the Victorian heritage and the Malt Whisky trail.
