Car Hire Coleraine
"Coleraine is a great base for exploring the beautiful northern coast of Ulster by hire car."
Coleraine has many amazing sights for visitors who have hired a car to get around. The iconic Giant’s Causeway is only a short drive away. The basalt hexagonal pillars here, reminders of an extinct volcano’s huge eruption, are said by local folklore to be the way that a giant travelled from Scotland to Ireland.
Also nearby is the ancient fort of Mount Sandel, built on a site thought to have been inhabited since 6,000BC. For aficionados of whiskey, the famous Bushmills Distillery is also nearby and as well as offering tours, also has a very informative museum.

Coleraine Mini Guide
Northern Ireland is a Pretty Unusual Destination for a Holiday Isn’t it?
Well yes, but it’s becoming increasingly popular with people taking city breaks or longer holidays. The scenery is fantastic, the people friendly and welcoming and the food and drink excellent. The Ulster Tourist Board has tried very hard and successfully to promote the attractions of the area and Coleraine is a great example of a destination with a lot to see and do in its vicinity.
How do I get to Coleraine?
There are two airports that you can fly into - City of Derry and Belfast Airports. City of Derry is about forty miles away whilst Belfast is sixty. Many regional carriers from the UK fly to both airports as well as budget airlines. Once there, you have the choice of two ways of getting to Coleraine. The train goes directly from Belfast to Derry with Coleraine station being on the route. Alternatively you could take the Goldliner bus from Belfast and travel up the World Heritage recognised stunning Antrim Coast to the city. Taxis are also available at the airport but could be costly whilst hire car is a good and cheap alternative.
What Should be on my List of Things to do and see?
There’s so much there you’ll need a week to see and do it all. Hopefully you’ll have arrived there after travelling along the wonderful scenery of the Antrim Coast. From the city, head out to the Giant’s Causeway – one of the UK’s most easily recognised geographical features. Then take a tour of the Bushmills Irish Whiskey Distillery where you’ll be treated to a sample of the golden liquor after an informative journey through the development of the spirit! You should also spend a day at the beautiful coastal resorts of Portrush and Portstewart, Ireland’s leading seaside towns.
