Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and is home to some fascinating museums relating to the nation. About the Airport
Wellington International Airport is in Rongotai, close to Wellington on North Island. It is the 3rd busiest airport in New Zealand. The terminal has been nicknamed ‘The Rock’ due to its controversial and unconventional design.

You can fly from many airports in New Zealand and major cities in Australia, such as Melbourne and Sydney.
Is it Easy to get to the City?
By car it is an easy drive using state highway 1 (via Mount Victoria Tunnel) and only 8 km to the city. You can meet your car hire representative at level 0 in the terminal. Taxis and shuttle buses are available to take you into the city or you can take the Metlink 91 Airport Flyer, it runs every 15 minutes.
What’s at the Airport for me?
Firstly, when you arrive at the airport you will see the Information Station, where you can pick up maps and find out more about local attractions. Here you can also book a hotel or ask about transport in the area. There are 4 ATMs conveniently located around the terminal and Travelex can change your currency or help with banking or postal services. Free Wi-Fi is available all around the airport if you need to check up on emails. Ambassadors are volunteers at the airport who can offer you information about the airport or the local area.
What if I get Hungry?
Try the South East Asian hawker style dishes at Billie Chu or if you enjoy a good curry head for Curry Capital where they serve multi-ethnic food. If it’s a coffee and cake moment go to Café Arome and for freshly made sandwiches go to Fresh Bites. Mojo offer a full menu and restaurant style service. If you are just thirsty, head for Cooked Strait Bar.
I Forgot Something, can I Shop There?
For those last minute items you forgot there is Cargo Convenience Store. If you forgot your swimwear go to Beach Culture. Discover NZ is the place to shop for local gifts and souvenirs or take a look in Silvermoon for unusual jewellery items. For music on the go, visit Marbecs or if you need a book for your journey, go to Whitcoull’s. JR Duty Free has a wide range of fragrances and electronics, see if you can find a bargain there.
Is There a Hotel Nearby?
The Airport Motel is just 5 minutes from the airport and they offer free transfers. The motel has 4 stars and overlooks Lyall Bay. Every room has a kitchenette and some have balconies or spa baths.
