There are many unique attractions around Liepaja and we’d recommend that you hire a car to see them. One of the most unusual is spending the night in one of the cells at the former Soviet prison in the Karosta part of the city.
Back in Liepaja, you’ll find that the city is renowned for the amber that can be found locally. The fossilised tree resin has been used in the town’s Amber Clock which is backlit at night giving the most beautiful light display. You can also visit the Craftsman’s House, a museum dedicated to amber production.

Serving the Latvian city of Liepaja is Liepaja Airport, which is one of three largest airports in the country. The airport was built in 1940, however it wasn't until after 1960 that it was to be used for commercial public flights. Previously the airport was used solely for military purposes. The airport now serves domestic flights also, which is useful as in 2007 the population of Liepaja was recorded as 85,345 making the city the third largest in Latvia. Visitors will find airlines such as Air Baltic, which in 2007 offered new routes to cities such as Hamburg and Riga.
There are many amenities within the airport such as Duty Free accessed from the one main terminal. Those wishing to access public transport will find the number 2 bus directly outside the building taking guests into the town centre.
