If you’ve hired a car in Jamaica then a good day out is to the former capital, Port Royal, that was first destroyed by an earthquake in 1692 and then again in another one ten years later. It was once known as the wickedest city in the Caribbean because of the pirates that frequented it.
Henry Morgan was one of the more well-known pirates from the heyday of the city and his story along with that of Port Royal is documented in the city museum. The earthquake was said to be retribution from God for its wickedness.
