Pisa Airport Mini Guide

The Airport
Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport is only just over a mile from the city centre and last year serviced over 4 million passengers that passed through its gates. The airport is easily accessed and upon arrival has plenty of parking spaces immediately in front of the terminal building with the short stay car park right in front of the doors to the departure area.

Flying to Pisa Airport
23 airlines fly into the airport, a combination of scheduled national carriers and budget airlines, the busiest operators being Ryanair and easyJet. Some people arrive at the airport via the railway station that is part of the airport.

Onward Travel Options
There is a railway station at the airport with fast connections to Florence and other stations in Tuscany. The bus service from the airport takes passengers to all the major Tuscan towns and cities. Tickets for both trains and buses can be purchased from the information bureau in the terminal building. Taxis are another convenient option and can be hired from the rank outside the airport. Chauffeur driven cars are also available from the car hire desks. If collecting a hire car from the airport, you need to catch the shuttle bus that takes you from just outside arrivals to the office a short distance away. With many airports, queues can develop when a number of flights land and it’s worth sending a driver on ahead whilst other group members collect luggage.

Public Information
There’s an airport information desk in the far right hand corner of arrivals open from 0700 until 2300 and next to it is the tourist information desk.

Facilities
There is a branch of the Cassa di Risparmio di Pisa bank, open from 0830 until 1930 on weekdays and two bureaux de change in the public area of arrivals and departures.  A number of ATMs are found on both floors of the airport.

A chapel is available in arrivals for those that wish for quiet time to pray. First aid facilities are available in the arrivals area and there is a dispensing pharmacy accompanying it. Wi-Fi is available for a fee on the first floor of the airport and in the business centre.

Shopping at the Airport
Shopping at Pisa Airport is excellent and it has its own shopping mall, the Galileo Mall, with 20 shops dedicated to ‘Made in Italy’. These include a number of fashion outlets, jewellery and accessory stores and a Tuscan food and wine store. Beyond security are a newsagents, another Tuscan produce outlet and the customary duty free store selling chocolates, alcohol, tobacco and perfumery.

Is There More Than Pizza in Pisa?
There are a number of excellent places to eat at the airport serving anything from traditional Tuscan dishes to pizza and light snacks. There is also a steak house for those with heartier appetites. Beyond security there is a café serving light snacks and beverages. For those that want to watch planes take off and land there is a viewing terrace.

Disabled Assistance
The standard assistance is available at the airport but there are also a number of call points around the airport, both internally and externally, for summoning assistance. We would recommend that you inform your airline before travelling so that necessary steps can be taken to assist you at the airport. The airport conforms to EU law on disability provision.

Pisa Airport is a rapidly growing airport in Tuscany. It has the twin draw of the historic city and the world famous countryside. A hire car can help you to enjoy both.

Spend a couple of days seeing the sights of the city then head out into the Tuscan countryside through fields of golden corn, punctuated with tall cypress trees. There’s the essential visit to the leaning tower but also the rest of the city with its Renaissance architecture and the centuries old University of Pisa.
