Perugia is famous for two things in particular; art and chocolate. The perfect day in Perugia involves walking around the galleries whilst munching Perugina’s Baci Kisses made in the city. In the heat of summer your hire car will have to have good air conditioning to stop them melting – if they last that long!
Leaving the city you’ll experience the beauty of the region of Umbria which has inspired artists, including Raphael who painted it five times. The region is far less touristy than its neighbour Tuscany but just as photogenic.
Perugia Mini Guide
Perugia is the capital of Umbria and has much to offer tourists who visit there.

Perugia was the cradle of many amazing artists such as Raphael who produced incredible Renaissance works. The centre of the city itself is like an outdoor art museum so beautiful is the architecture there.
Not only does Perugia attract thousands of tourists every year but it is also home to a thriving university.
There are many cafe and bars to cater to all the students who go there and the atmosphere of Perugia is generally buzzing. The centre of Perugia is around the top of a hill where the most interesting historical antiquities are located.
The centre of the city is not that suited to travelling by car, so park up nearby and walk. Some of the sights are a medieval citadel called Rocco Paolina and the Marzia Gate which was built by the Etruscans, an ancient Italian civilisation.

There is also a fountain which was built in the 13th century called Fontana Maggiore. In terms of impressive churches there is the Cathedral of San Lorenzo while the town hall, Palazzo dei Priori, has incredible Gothic detail.
To arrive in Perugia you may wish to pick up a hire car from the regional airport which has flights to major cities like
Milan.
Otherwise take the autostrada one between
Rome and Milan and you will see Perugia signposted off of one of the exits.
