Marino Mini Guide

With car hire Marino not only can you see this attractive Italian city but the surrounding district of Lazio and some of the best wine country anywhere in Italy. Indeed many of our customers are renting cars so that they can go to the annual grape festival, a veritable bacchanal of wine tasting along with lovely food. Marino is rich in history too having been settled since the first century BC. There is also a festival to remember Battle of Lepanto.

Charles VIII of France lived here as did Vittoria Colonna. By the year 1870 Marino had become part of Italy in 1870. In the Second World War Marino was heavily bombed by the US air force. From Marino you can even drive to the capital Rome, which is full of opulent and important buildings, in about half an hour. Although their used to be an old train and tram line here it has since gone out of use.

The commune of Marino was built on the Alban Hills and some thirty seven thousand people live here. Nearby are other populous other communes which can be accessed with car hire Marino such as Albano Laziale, Castel Gandolfo, Grottaferrata, Rocca di Papa and Ciampino. In Marino itself the main sights are the Baroque Mithraeum of Marino, the Church of the Santissima Trinita and the Santa Maria delle Grazie which has a single nave with side chapels. The latter is home to an interesting Domenichino painting.
