Brindisi Airport Mini Guide

Background Information
Brindisi Airport or Apulia Airport as it is variously known is 2 km north of Brindisi. It sees nearly a million passengers each year go through its terminals. Parking is straightforward there with long term and short term parking spaces totalling 650 in all, immediately in front of the terminal building.

Brindisi Airport

Getting There
Nine airlines fly there, Ryanair being the airline with the most routes. The flights are a mix of international scheduled and domestic scheduled flights. New Spanish airline Volotea has joined the airlines flying to Brindisi with routes from Cagliari and Venice.

Options for Onward Travel
The city is easily accessible by turning left on the Via Egnazia after leaving the airport grounds.  There are no trains from the airport but buses run regularly from outside the terminal building to Brindisi and Lecce and the 30 minute trip will cost 4 euros. Taxis are available too at the airport but make sure you agree a fare before setting off.

Car hire is a good option there as transport links are minimal. The desks are found immediately after exiting customs and we would recommend pre-booking as it has been known for the companies to run out of vehicles at peak times. If collecting a car, it will be advantageous to send a member of the party through to queue whilst others are collecting baggage or a long wait may ensue. The roads around the airport are well signposted.

Information Desks
There’s an airport information desk in the arrivals and departures public areas which also doubles as a lost luggage enquiry area. There is no tourist information desk but there is an automated touch screen information point that can help with directions, hotels and places to visit.

Facilities at Brindisi Airport
There are no banks at Brindisi but there is a Bancomat ATM for euro account withdrawals. Shopping at Brindisi is reasonable for a small airport with an art shop, newsagent and bookseller and a sunglasses outlet before security and after security you’ll find the usual duty free shop selling alcohol, tobacco products, perfumery and gifts together with a local produce outlet shop

Before security there is the Mediterraneo restaurant serving good quality a la carte food and a pizza and pasta outlet. After security there is a solitary coffee shop selling snacks and sandwiches.

Olbia Airport has a first aid room with a qualified member of staff to help if needed. It can be found to the right of the public area, just after arrivals.  There is also a nursery should you wish to drop off young children whilst sorting out checking in etc.

Wi-Fi is available across the airport and there is a dedicated internet access point for those without a laptop.

Extra Assistance
Facilities for the disabled are good with staff on hand to respond to the needs of those with reduced mobility. As with many Italian airports, a Sala Amica room is set aside for the privacy of disabled passengers with full access to flight information. General assistance is available for disabled travellers but it is recommended that you inform your airline before travelling so that necessary steps can be taken to assist you. The airport conforms to EU law on disability provision.

Latest Update from Brindisi Airport:

25/04/12 - Passenger numbers continue to grow at Brindisi Airport adding 25% in the last year. A new airport at Salento, nearby, has opened to take some of the meteoric growth in passengers as expansion of Brindisi was not practical.

The lower regions of Italy, Puglia in particular, are often overlooked by tourists which is a great shame as the weather is sublime and the scenery perfect. A hire car can take you from your accommodation to explore the little coves and azure blue seas around the coast there.

For those interested in history and culture, there’s still plenty to see as the area was once inhabited by the Phoenicians before the Roman Empire came to prominence. Alternatively, visit the nature reserves around the city for some natural entertainment.
