Waterford Airport Mini Guide
Waterford Airport serves the south east of Ireland. Although it is not a very busy airport we offer car hire options at the airport as this is a convenient point from which to pick up low cost vehicles. Just over 100,000 passengers use Waterford Airport on an annual basis. It is located near the city of the same name in Killowen. With a car you can make the short five and a half mile drive from Waterford Airport to Waterford. This is a relatively recent airport which has only been open since 1981.
Ten years after the airport opened it was then renovated. There are now plans to further upgrade the airport following a substantial investment in 2007. This is aimed at increasing passenger numbers ten fold. Mostly light aircraft use the airport and there are some flying schools too. Although various airlines have used Waterford Airport over the years the only remaining service is with Aer Arann to destinations such as Lorient, London Luton
. London Luton is currently the most frequent service with planes flying three times per day on Sundays, Mondays, Thursday and Fridays.
Waterford Airport has two boarding gates, four check in desks and two baggage carousels. It also has services such as free Wi-Fi, duty free shopping and various bars and restaurants. The airport has two hundred car parking spaces, though one of the advantages of hiring a car is that you don't have to worry about finding a space to park.
Remember that even if you are not flying in, car hire Waterford is an ideal way to see this city in the south east of Ireland.
