Galway Airport Mini Guide
Galway Airport is located north of Galway City in Carnmore, which is why a hire car is the most reliable way of getting between Galway and Galway Airport. Hiring a car is also the cheapest method of travelling as there is not much in the way of public transport and taxis are expensive. The airport was very successful in the early part of the 21st century, though this has tailed off recently due to the recession. Still, three years ago Galway Airport was able to welcome its two millionth passenger.
Galway Airport has flights with Aer Arann to Dublin
, Edinburgh, London Luton, Waterford and Manchester in summer. There are also private flight training and helicopter flight facilities run from Galway Airport. Because there is a relatively small runway mostly turboprop aircraft are used at Galway Airport. The airport is run by Corrib Airport Limited, though it has also recently had a large amount of financial assistance from the Government of Ireland to the tune of 6.3 million euros.
Remember that if you would prefer to pick up your low cost car downtown we also offer car hire in Galway at the same reasonable prices, so go ahead and make your choice.
Galway is known as one of the traditional counties of Ireland containing several Irish speaking enclaves so getting directions might be difficult but with car hire Galway we can give you English and other language sat nav systems to help you find your way around.
30/04/12 - Aer Arann decided last autumn to cease flights in and out of Galway Airport for the winter season due to economic reasons. It is hoped that flights will resume this summer although at the moment that is looking unlikely. That being the case, Galway Airport, once a proud and successful regional airport will only service general aviation and private charter flights.
