Santorini Mini Guide
What can you Tell me About Santorini?
It’s one of the most picturesque islands in the Mediterranean and is even more appealing given its dramatic history. Once a simmering volcanic island, Thira, literally exploded nearly four millennia ago removing 80% of the island’s land mass and leaving just parts of the rim of the crater sticking up from the sea. Today the unusual geography of the island makes it very photogenic and with villages like Oia with its white sugar cube houses and blue woodwork clinging to the cliff, it has a film set quality about it.
How do I get to Santorini?
Santorini has its own airport which accepts flights from all over Europe including several chartered and scheduled flights from the
UK. No-frills airlines operate to Santorini Airport keeping travel costs low for budget conscious travellers. An alternative method of accessing the island is to take the ferry that departs from Piraeus outside
Athens. It takes up to six hours but is a relaxing and beautiful journey as you wind your way through the Greek Islands.
What Should I Do on Santorini?
For a start you have got to watch one of the many stunning sunsets that the island is famous for. Then, take your camera to the village of Oia and catch the brilliant white sugar cube houses with their typically Greek blue woodwork, against the azure sky.
