Geographically Lemnos is a fascinating island. It is flat on its eastern part but mountainous on its western side. It’s nearly split in two by a large bay which is home to the historic port of Moudros. More fascinating still is the village of Agios Efstratios which is on the edge of Europe’s only desert.
Archaeologically, Lemnos was the earliest inhabited island in the Aegean with finds dating back to 14,000 years ago. Part of its charm these days is the abundance of local produce which makes its way to the markets and the dining tables of the island’s tavernas.
Myrina Mini Guide
Myrina is the main town on the Greek island of Lemnos. With a hire car you can enjoy trips to the coastline all along the Aegean Sea. There are more than 30 excellent sandy beaches around for tourists to enjoy.

The island is in the north Aegean and is part of the Greek prefecture of Lesbos. Measuring around 477 km squared it is a relatively large island which is best seen with the help of a vehicle.
You are unlikely to need a four wheel drive as Lemnos is mostly flat but the west coast where Myrina is located can be quite mountainous so consider getting an off road car if you plan to explore.
Myrina means Castle in Greek and this is an impressive town which has a prominent harbour.

The harbour was used to connect Myrina with the mainland and there are still joining ferries to this day. Ask our helpful staff about taking a vehicle to the mainland if this is what you want to do. It is possible to drive to the capital Athens relatively easily also.
Tourists in Myrina will enjoy the food as it is famous for it's delicious fresh fruit and vegetables as well as many other things. Grapes are also grown there which are used to make a wine which is similar to Muscat.
