Lille is one of the biggest cities in France with more than a quarter of a million people living there. Lille is close to the border with Belgium and it was built along the banks of the Deûle River. It has a strong industrial history having been a centre for the manufacture of textiles.
In terms of religion this was also a site of the Protestant revolts. During the 20th century Lille suffered again as it was fought over in both the first and second world wars. All in all there is plenty of history to keep tourists entertained.

The French city of Lille is steeped in history and some archaeological digs have dated the area back to 2000BC. Up until the 1960's it was predominately a textile, coal and mining town before expanding in population and started to concentrate providing service sector business.
Being of easy access and in the heart of the London-Paris-Brussels triangle it has many people passing through it.
The TGV high speed train, opened in 1993, links Lille to Pairs in one hour. Taking a hire car, you can travel on board the Eurostar train and see the UK if you wish.
Having a temperate climate, one that is neither too hot nor too cold, Lille is a perfect place to visit at any time of year. Adding to the excellent transport links are the five autoroutes namely the A1, A22, A23, A25 and A27. These link Germany, Belgium, UK, Netherlands and of course, the rest of France.
For entertainment the Lille Comics Festival is held in November. Having only been running since 2006 it is a growing event. Holding famous American and British comic book at a convention is an interesting attraction for Lille.
Why not see Lille Football Club? They are one of France's major football teams and regularly feature in the European Champions League. Having won 8 national trophies you can visit the stadium and take a guided tour around.
Lille is full of wonderful gardens to visit such as Jardin Botanique de la Faculte de Pharmacie, Jardin des Plantes de Lille. Also the Citadel of Lille is a worthy attraction.
