Oulu Airport (OUL) is the second busiest Finnish airport and it is run by Finavia. Around 688,000 passengers use it annually, most of them taking the numerous daily flights that are offered to Helsinki. Finnair, Blue1 and Norwegian Air Shuttle are the companies which offer the flights to the capital. It is also one of the main transporters of freight in Finland.
Because Oulu Airport is busy, we advise customers to prebook their reliable car hire in Oulu Airport to guarantee availability. The airport will undergo a renovation and expansion in September 2011 to create new jetbridges at the terminal.
Oulu Airport Mini Guide
Finland's Second Largest Airport
Oulu is Finland's second largest airport after Helsinki, situated just over 10km from the city of Oulu which is at the top of the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea. It handles mainly domestic flights with around 20 flights daily to Helsinki along with several international flights to other Baltic countries. It is also used extensively by the Finnish Air Force for training purposes.
Trying to Keep You Warm!
Following recent extensive renovations to it's terminal, Oulu is now an up to date international airport, it's new terminal opened at the end of September 2011 and now provides an excellent service for all travellers. One of the main improvements is more passenger bridges from the terminal to the aircraft which is a must in a country where the temperatures fall to -30 degrees Celsius in the winter time and where it is hardly daylight during the months of December and January!
Updated Facilities
If you are travelling with children there are now more than adequate changing facilities for children within the terminal, there is also a small children's play area in the cafeteria. If you have limited mobility there are now more facilities for your assistance, including a lift, disabled parking spaces and disabled toilet facilities. Should you need any extra assistance, please ask at the information desk. The cafeteria and airport shop are open whenever flights are operating and the Tax Free shop whenever there is an international flight leaving the airport.
Travelling Through Oulu on Business?
There is now a VIP Centre which is self catering or with restaurant service if you prefer - a convenient place to hold your business meeting before flying home.
Need to Stay the Night?
There is an airport hotel just 3km from Oulu Airport, which as well as the obligatory sauna you might expect in a Finnish hotel, you can eat and drink in a traditional wooden hut with an open fire in the centre. Alternatively you can stay at a hotel in Oulu itself, slightly further away, there you can choose between smaller local 2 star hotels and 4 star luxury from many of the worlds major hotel chains such as Radisson, Holiday Inn and Best Western.
