Protaras Mini Guide
Protaras is a quiet resort which is surrounding by dazzling beaches and some of Cyprus' best nightlife.

There are many apartments, villas and houses being constructed around Protaras, which is on the Eastern side of the island in the district of Famagusta. Since Cyprus joined the EU there has been a property boom and Protaras has been rapidly developed, though not always in the best taste.
Protaras has clear-blue sea and some of the best beaches in Cyprus. Among these is Golden Beach, which has been given the prestigious EC Blue Flag award in recognition of its good condition.
Another famous beach is Fig Tree Bay which many people consider to be the best in Cyprus. Try your hand at a multitude of different water sports at Protaras as it is possible to rent pedalos, go waterskiing or kayaking if you wish.
Next to the beaches are cliffs which are covered in flowers during the springtime, making Protaras ideal for people who like to walk or cycle and take in the great sights of nature.
For the very active, if they hike up rocky crags to the old church of Ayios Ilias, their reward will be a spectacular view. Although Protaras is quieter than many of the neighbouring resorts, there is a buzzing and varied bar scene, with DJs belting out English club tunes or Elvis impersonators trying to emulate 'The King'.

It is also very family-orientated and so attracts tourists and Cypriots. Protaras, which is in the municipality of Paralimni, is a warm, friendly area, close to amenities and there is some public transport in the form of buses for those who do not drive.
The resort has plenty of shops, selling fine leather goods and jewellery, and hotels as well as lots of restaurants and fast food joints. Once you have a car there are many places of exceptional natural beauty in the surrounding areas to be explored, such as Cape Greco.
