Playa Blanca Mini Guide
Playa Blanca (white beach) is a seaside resort on the north eastern island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Having started life as a small fishing village, Playa Blanca is now fully geared to tourists who are looking for sun, sand and sea. Whether you want to flop on the beach or take advantage of a variety of water sports which are on offer, there is something for everyone in Playa Blanca, whether they are families, singles or couples.
Among the water sports which can be enjoyed on Playa Blanca are snorkelling and jet skiing, as well as wind surfing if the conditions are right. However, many people come to Playa Blanca because it is not as windy as the rest of Lanzarote. This is because of the sheltering Femes Mountains which protect Playa Blanca. In terms of other sea based activities, you can take a catamaran out for the day or go diving at nearby Lobos.
Although the Playa Blanca is well equipped to cater to the needs of all kinds of travellers with plenty of bars, shops and restaurants, it is essentially a laid back beach resort. At Playa Blanca you can escape the noise and inappropriate behaviour which can be found in many other Mediterranean summer getaways. That said there are a few places to have a go at karaoke while enjoying a drink or two, so how loud you get is up to you.
The heart of Playa Blanca is situated around the Marina Rubicon where you will find the best places to eat, drink or pick up a souvenir. If you are eating out at any of the romantic taverns be sure to try the local, freshly caught seafood which is to die for.
A good way to take some exercise and explore the area is to walk along the coast past the Pechiguera lighthouse and head eastwards towards Papagayo.
When choosing where to stay there are a wide variety of accommodation options which include four and five star hotels for those who are happy to splash out, and self catering options. The latter are cheaper and allow you more control over how to spend your holiday.
To arrive at Playa Blanca you will arrive at Lanzarote airport, pick up your Rhino hire car and make the short drive to Playa Blanca which is on the southern tip of the island. Alternatively you can also fly into Fuerteventura airport and take a boat across to Lanzarote.

Playa Blanca is the most southerly resort on the Island of Lanzarote. It is approximately 37 km from Arrecife, the Island’s capital, and about 33 km from the Arrecife airport. Playa Blanca is a tranquil resort which has recently been developed.
The area is quite flat and has good disabled access. The new Marina Rubicon has helped towards raising the image of the resort and is fast becoming the place to visit. Some of the largest and most expensive boats are moored here.
The coastline around Playa Blanca is made up of three bays. Therefore the beaches are sheltered and ideal for swimming and sunbathing. There is a pedestrian sea front.
A stunning view of the island of Fuerteventura can be had from the beach and daily ferries operate from the harbour. The ferry journey only takes about 30 minutes. All the normal tourist shops can be found in the resort. Not such a lively night life to be found here but late night discos can be found at Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise.
Boat trips and excursions are available from the harbour or the Marina Rubicon. Good seafood restaurants can be found on the beach promenade overlooking the central Playa Blanca beach and give good panoramic views of the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. Certainly a popular place to sit and have a drink, or maybe a meal, and enjoy the atmosphere.
