Playa de Ingles Gran Canaria Mini Guide
Playa de Ingles is one of the biggest beach resorts in Europe and has become especially popular with the gay community over the years. If the sand on the beaches looks so fine that it could only come from the Sahara Desert, that’s because it does.
Along with warm, azure seas and the fabulous climate of
Gran Canaria, which is always hot without being too hot, Playa de Ingles is a tourist’s paradise which has great bars and shops. The population of around 20,000 people is growing and there are a number of hotels and restaurants continually springing up to cater to their needs.
There are huge commercial centres, the Yumbo and the Kasbah which have a wide range designer retailers, as well as an Indian Bazaar which sells rags, souvenirs and local fare. If you have had your fill of soaking up the sun or taking advantage of the duty free shopping in the Canary Islands, then there are a number of pedestrianised promenades on which to stroll and take in the sights.
The main promenade, the Paseo Costa Canaria is decorated with beautiful sub tropical plants and luxury homes. One of the nicest sights during the walk is the impressive Templo Ecumenico de San Salvador which caters to the religious needs of people in the three most popular languages of the area, Spanish, English and German.
The promenade links with the eastern beach of Playa de la Burras and leads on to the nature park in the dunes of Maspalomas, which is a good place to go if you like nature, or nudists!
