Treat yourself to rest and relaxation, luxury, and a bit of pampering at the beach resort of Meloneras in Gran Canaria. Not far from the shimmering sands and wide sandy beaches of Maspalamoas on the island's south coast, Meloneras oozes style and sophistication. Comfort is the order of the day, and there are an abundance of four and five star hotels such as the Hotel Rui Palace Meloneras Resort whose chandeliers and marble floors make it look palatial.

Many of the hotels are all inclusive and even have shopping facilities within them, making it hard for the weary traveller to want to venture outside. For those who cannot afford the luxury hotels, there are several complexes of bungalows which are still smart. Two beach promenades which stretch alongside the vast expanses of sand allow tourists to take a walk within reach of all the conveniences they need. There are plenty of ritzy shops and classy restaurants in this area where you can sample the traditional Spanish food served in the Canary Islands and pretty much any international dish you can think of, including Chinese, French and Italian. The shopping contains a good mix of souvenir and designer label shops.

The resort lies only a half hour away from Las Palmas airport making it easily accessible, and once you have made yourself comfortable on its pristine beaches and soothing blue waters, it is unlikely you will want to leave. Should you feel energetic though, it is easy to walk across the dunes to Maspalomas, a great place to seek out nightlife and a happening party vibe.
There are also a number of walks into the cliffs which flank Meloneras which are ideal for people who want to get some exercise or catch the sunset. Thrill seekers can visit the casino in Meloneras which puts on a cabaret show as well and sports lovers will be happy to find a brand new 18 hole golf course.

Car hire is also a cheap and viable option if you want to get out and see what the rest of the island has to offer. Gran Canaria is rich is wildlife, having been designated as an ecological reserve, and whether you plan to venture out into its mountains or explore the surrounding lagoons of the Atlantic Ocean, there is plenty to see. You can even rent a small aircraft out to get a bird’s eye view of the island.
