Bahia Feliz Mini Guide
Bahia Feliz is one of the smaller, quieter resorts in the north east of Gran Canaria, and an ideal location to take the family for a holiday. The black sands reflect the volcanic heritage of the Canary Islands, the beaches are beautiful and the sea is as warm as bath tub water.
The breezy bay of Bahia Feliz has become very popular with windsurfers and many of the world’s top professionals come regularly as conditions are perfect all year around. The main hotel in the area, the Orquidea, works very hard to meet the needs of families, and there are special kid zones and play areas set up for children to be occupied throughout the day.
The recently renovated hotel also offers a large range of buffet food for every meal which means that its customers get choice and value for their money. Extensive green tropical gardens around the hotel and the cove add to the feelings of peace and tranquillity that visitors to Bahia Feliz will experience, while the climate is as perfect as is to be expected in the Canary Islands. Bahia Feliz certainly has character and is one of the most stylish resorts in the Gran Canaria with its traditional whitewashed buildings.
Aside from the Orquidea, there are a number of self catering one and two bedroom apartments in the resort which can be rented for around 30 Euros per night. The relatively limited scope of things to do in Bahia Feliz means that car hire is a necessity. But drivers will not find getting around stressful, as there is very little traffic.
Once mobile, tourists can get into the rest of the island and see mountains which are as high as 2,000 meters, strange rock formations which have been caused by lava flow and subtropical forests which have been protected because of their ecological diversity.
While there are a few bars and restaurants in Bahia Feliz, for those who want to sample proper nightlife it is advised that they drive to Playa de Ingles as this only takes 15 minutes.
A tip for fresh fish aficionados is to visit the small village of Arguineguin which is 15 kilometres away. And if you want to shop and sample what the restaurants have to offer you can get to the capital of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in half an hour.
