Taking its name from the town of Brampton in Cumbria, England, it is also known as “The Flower Town of Canada” due to the city’s greenhouse industry and the Communities in Bloom International Award, which was won in 2008.  Nowadays, the city is known for other industries including manufacturing, logistics, information and communication technologies and life sciences.  Brampton is the 3rd largest city in the Greater Toronto area of Ontario, Canada and the last census confirmed that the population stands at 433,806 making it the 11th largest city in Canada.

How do I Get There?
By plane - Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is just a 30 minute drive away.
By train - there are 3 rail stations in Brampton and a train journey from Toronto Union Station to Brampton takes about 35 minutes.  If the trains are not running, they are replaced by buses however these run from Yorkdale/York Mills subway stations. 
By road - there are major routes into Brampton including Highway 401 from Toronto, Highway 407 which runs along the south side of the city and Steeles Avenue runs north of the 407 and is also a route from Toronto.

There are many shopping areas, including Bramalea City Centre.  This is an indoor shopping mall and one of the largest in Canada, attracting 12 million people annually.  Also there is Shoppers World and for second hand bargains, try The Fabulous Flea Market.

What Can I Do in Brampton?
There is much to do there, from parks and gardens to day spas.  Gage Park has an ice path for skating through and is a popular park in Downtown Brampton.  Bovaird House is an historic landmark and this Georgian type farmhouse boasts gardens typical of the 19th century.  The forest at Heartlake Conservation Area surrounds a lake and when you are there you get the feeling that you are miles away from the city.  With 8 km of nature trails, this is a favoured spot for hikers and there is a playground and water play area for the kids.  For a day out on the lake or relaxing on a sandy beach, Professors Lake will be perfect.  With lakeside pursuits including windsurfing, fishing, canoeing and beach volleyball, you will have a great time.  If you want to see a show or a live band, The Rose Theatre is the ideal venue.

Jakes Boathouse is named “The Home of Fun, Food and Spirits”, as there is always something going on there including live music.  In addition to this, there are lots more places to wine and dine, whether your taste is Chinese, Greek or Italian.  Tracks Brew Pub is traditional style and is home to the Old Mill Lager, amongst other local and imported beers.  There are also Breakfast Bars for a good start to the day.
