The Airport
7.1 million passengers passed through Adelaide, Australia’s 5th busiest airport. It’s found less than four miles west of the city which is reachable in less than 15 minutes. There’s plenty of long, medium and short term parking. The long stay car park is some distance from the terminal but a free shuttle service operates regularly.
How to Get There
16 airlines, international scheduled and domestic, use the airport with the majority of flights being domestic ones from Melbourne and Sydney airports.
Onwards Bound
There are no rail services directly from the airport but an excellent shuttle service operates between the airport and the central business district stopping en-route at Keswick Interstate railway station. The service also stops at major city hotels for the drop off and pick up of passengers. An alternative is the Adelaide Airport Flyer which is able to pick up and drop off at your door if 48 hours’ notice is given. This service operates seven days a week. Taxis are a convenient option but be aware there is a $2 surcharge to cover airport parking costs.
For those collecting a hire car from the airport, the car hire desks are located on the ground level, opposite the baggage reclaim, which allows someone to queue whilst other members of the party wait for luggage; a bonus as long queues can form when flights arrive. The airport is right on the main highway and access to the city and surrounding region is easy.
Public Information
The airport is served by the Airport Ambassadors, easily spotted in their burgundy jackets, which can be found near the baggage reclaim and check in areas.
Facilities Available
There are two Travelex outlets offering exchange facilities on floor 0 and 2. On other floors there are ATMs.
Shopping at Adelaide Airport is great with the T1 Mall’s many shops offering a range of Australian products from clothes and accessories to food and drink produced locally. There’s also the standard duty free shop offering drink, tobacco, perfumery and gifts as well as a desk enabling tax refunds to be made on certain purchases.
There are plenty of options for eating at the airport; from steak houses to snack bars to cafes and bars. Food outlets are found in all public areas of the airport so you’ll never go hungry.
A first aid facility is available with trained first aiders in attendance. It can be found in the public area just after arrivals.
Free Wi-Fi is available across the airport as well as ten internet kiosks in departures. A multidenominational prayer room is available in arrivals. For families travelling with children, a Childplay room is available where they can take part in physical activity or sit and draw or watch a video.
Lost luggage can be reported in the arrivals baggage reclaim area and a locker service is available for those that want to leave items in the airport.
