Nearest Petrol Station: Car Hire

When hiring a car, it’s likely that you’ll be required to return he car with a full tank of fuel. The trend of hiring a car and paying for a tank of fuel in advance and returning the car empty is long out of fashion following some poor practises of high fuel costs and admin charges leaving the consumer paying significantly more for their car rental fuel than they otherwise might.

A Full to Full fuel policy is certainly our recommended policy here at Rhino, simply meaning that when you arrive to collect your car, it’ll have a full tank of fuel so you need not worry about finding a fuel station (often in a foreign country) enabling you to get on with your holiday or travel plans. It does however mean that you need to plan ahead when returning the car as you need to replace any used fuel on your return. Filling the car up, for instance near to your location and driving the 50 miles back to the airport to return the car is likely to use enough fuel that the car will not register as full by the time you arrive and you’ll be liable to a fuel charge from the rental supplier. Equally, using the fuel station on the motorway next to the airport is likely to cost you significantly more than a local fuel station, as much as 10-20p per litre, which on an average 50 litre fuel tank could cost up to £10 more to fill. That said, to many the convenience and ease of this option is well worth the money. If you have a loyalty card for a specific fuel station, then finding the nearest may well also save you a few extra pounds or gain a few extra points.

Here at Rhino however, we like to cover all bases and provide useful information for all our of customers to help save them money. That’s why we’ve added ‘nearest fuel stations’ to our website to show you the nearest petrol station to your pick up (and return) location enabling you to plan ahead whether you’re happy to pay the premium for the motorway services, or looking for the best value option, in which case the nearby supermarket is likely to be your best bet. Just remember to consider how far from the return location the fuel station is, as if the car no longer registers full on the fuel gauge by the time you get there, you’ll be charged for the missing fuel and an admin charge.
